“The course is very varied and incorporates academic elements such as lectures and guest speakers with practical elements such as visits and the opportunity to apply skills in practical work within the college restaurant and through work experience.  The facilities in the college are excellent and the teachers are always on hand to offer help and advice.

Katie says:

I intend to complete the top up year at the University of Plymouth to gain an honours degree and would love to work in event management in the near future.”

Nathan Hole, Foundation Degree Hospitality Management, Second year student.

“Over the two years I studied at South Devon College I thoroughly enjoyed my time and learning experiences. The new environment and enthusiastic lecturers made my learning interesting as well as informative, studying a range of areas that will be encountered and are necessary in industry. I have been able to secure work in prominent establishments such as a Von Essen Hotel near Bath proving my course background to be of great value. This was not only educational but extremely good fun and provided me with valuable contacts for the future. Being selected by Torbay Hospitality Association to receive their Paul Scholarship Award (an annual award for students with high potential) was also a great achievement and I am grateful to the trust for their recognition.

During the two years memorable activities involved a visit to the champagne region of France, Rome and Venice along with trips to trade shows and various hotels such as The Dorchester, Ritz Paris, Le Maurice and The Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

Gaining a foundation degree has enabled me to progress appropriately within the industry and I plan to continue my studies for a final year at Plymouth University to gain a full honours degree. In the future I would like to see myself in a managerial position of either a conferencing and events operation or accommodation facility providing high standards and quality with a pride and passion for service. To eventually own a hospitality operation of some sort in the future will be a great achievement and something I aspire to, however the journey there has just begun and I hope to continue, looking to the future with great expectations.”
